چکیده

Abstract One of the hallmarks malaria infection is oxidative stress. This study was aimed at investigating potential effects coadministering a therapeutic dose artesunate–amodiaquine (AS/AQ) with Vitamin C (Vit C) orally on some biochemical parameters and antioxidant enzymes gene expression in bone marrow cells Plasmodium berghei -infected mice. Thirty male Swiss albino mice were divided into five groups six each as follows: Basal control (not infected P. ), Untreated ( without treatment), Vit C, AS/AQ + combination treated Treatment done twice daily for three consecutive days. Complete parasite clearance observed second day treatment Serum albumin bilirubin levels higher compared those only. Artesunate–amodiaquine increased superoxide dismutase activity reduced hydrogen peroxide malondialdehyde when only AS/AQ. Furthermore, significantly up-regulated catalase glutathione peroxidase-1 (GPx-1) mRNA first report linking to enzyme cells. Our findings showed that coadministration may be beneficial it ameliorated stress

Changes in hematopoietic stem cells in bone marrow of mice with Plasmodium berghei malaria.

An impaired erythropoietic response to anemia has been noted in human patients with malaria and in rodents experimentally infected with Plasmodium berghei. We have attempted to characterize the erythropoietic response in mice with a fatal P berghei infection, with particular emphasis on changes in marrow hematopoietic stem cells. Mice infected with P berghei had dramatic decreases in bone marro...

In vivo Antiplasmodial and Cytotoxic Activity of Achyranthes aspera and Ficus thoningii in Mice Infected with Plasmodium berghei

Malaria remains o n e o f the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in tropical countries, and the alarming spread of the drugs resistant malaria parasite underscores the need to develop new antimalarial compounds. In this study, the phytochemical constituents, in vivo antiplasmodial, and cytotoxic activity of methanolic extracts of Achyranthes aspera and Ficus thoningii were evaluated usin...

Biochemical and morphological changes in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells induced by treatment of rats with p-Nonylphenol

Objective(s):In previous investigations, we have shown para-nonylphenol (p-NP) caused significant reduction of proliferation and differentiation of rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in vitro. In this study, we first treat the rats with p-NP, then carried out the biochemical and morphological studies on MSCs. Materials and Methods: Proliferation property of cells was evaluated with t...

Acute Toxicity Studies and Anti-plasmodial Potentials of Newbouldia laevis and Crateva adansonii in Plasmodium Berghei-infected Mice

Background: Newbouldia laevis and Crateva adansonii are popular plants used traditionally in the management of patients with malaria infection in Nigeria. In this study, the acute toxicity and anti-plasmodial effects of the leaf extracts of Newbouldia laevis and Crateva adansonii were investigated in mice. Methods: The Anti-plasmodial activities of both extracts were investigated individual...

Effect of anandamide in Plasmodium Berghei-infected mice.

Eryptosis, the suicidal death of erythrocytes, is characterized by exposure of phosphatidylserine at the erythrocyte surface and cell shrinkage. Triggers of eryptosis include anandamide. Enhanced eryptosis of infected human erythrocytes is expected to delay the development of parasitaemia during infection with Plasmodium, the parasite causing malaria. The present experiments aimed to test, whet...
